Distribution over time of all the bilateral agreements linked to readmission concluded by each Maghreb country with the EU-25 Member States

10 out of 17 bilateral agreements linked to readmission were concluded between 1980 and 1999. Currently, 8 negotiations in the field of readmission are taking place, reflecting the willingness of the Maghreb countries to open a dialogue on this issue. Note that 2 negotiations are taking place at a bilateral level with Morocco, despite the exclusive mandate of the European Commission to negotiate a readmission agreement with this country. Actually, these negotiations will certainly not be conducive to a formal readmission agreement; rather to the conclusion of an administrative arrangement or police cooperation agreement including, among other things, a clause on readmission. Italy and Malta are the two EU Member states that are currently involved in negotiations with Morocco.
